The key points were the strategies to increase the world demand, quality, sustainability and health.
International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC) organized an online conference to gather the industry actors. The conference featured several debates about farming, nutrition and the science related to nuts, and renowned international speakers were invited.
Importaco President, Toño Pons, participated in the conference presenting “The Future Nut” strategy. The aim of this strategy is satisfying the expectations of clients and consumers through specialization, knowledge and sustainability. The attendees had the opportunity to know first hand our projects applied to farming and processing of peanuts and spanish almonds.
Also, Guillermo Feo, Peanut Specialist Director, participated in the regional Working Groups; analyzing the current nut and dried fruit supply and demand, and the changing consumption patterns amid the COVID-19 context.
Figures presented in the conferences show plantings, tree nut production continues to trend positively and 2020/2021 crops are no exception: world nuts production is estimated at 5.3 M tons, up by 15% from 2019/20. These results state the need to keep innovating and opening up new markets.
As a consequence of the pandemic, the demand on nuts and dried fruits has skyrocketed, as well as online and retail sales. This tendency is aligned with growing demand of plant-based foods that improve immunity.
