The European Snacks Association (ESA) has just published its 2025 Sustainability Report, a document that highlights the sector’s progress towards more responsible, innovative, and sustainable production models. In this edition, Importaco once again takes a prominent role, sharing some of our main milestones and projects in regenerative agriculture, energy efficiency, circular economy, and food innovation.
Commitment to Regenerative Agriculture
The Importaco Terra program stands out within the section Biodiversity and Sustainable Sourcing. In 2024, the company’s agricultural project consolidated 550 hectares of almond orchards across Spain and Portugal, applying regenerative practices focused on improving soil fertility, biodiversity, and the responsible use of natural resources.
Thanks to these actions, Importaco’s farms achieved the Silver level of the Farm Sustainability Assessment (FSA), becoming the first Spanish almonds to obtain this recognition.

Advancing Toward Decarbonization
The ESA report also highlights Importaco’s decarbonization strategy, aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). We have set ambitious goals:
- Reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42%.
- Cut agricultural FLAG emissions by 30%.
- Lower absolute Scope 3 emissions by 25% before 2030.
Currently, all Importaco production plants in Spain hold ISO 50001 certification, and 9.2% of our electricity comes from in-house photovoltaic sources, complemented by almond shell biomass.

Circular Economy and the Fight Against Food Waste
The report highlights Importaco’s progress in waste management and circular economy: 75% of our centers in Spain are certified as Zero Waste. In 2024, the company recovered over 5,000 tons of waste, converting them into energy and recycled materials.
In the nuts division, Importaco Nuts is implementing a comprehensive plan to reduce food waste and revalue by-products, while optimizing plastic waste management systems—achieving a 64% increase in plastic recovery.

Innovation Driving Healthy Nutrition
The Innovation and Healthy Diets chapter showcases Importaco’s ongoing efforts to develop more natural and functional products. In 2024 alone, the company launched 210 new products, including nut mixes and solutions with benefits for digestive and cognitive health, reaching a turnover of €49 million, an 88% increase over the past two years.
Importaco’s inclusion in this new ESA report underscores its active role in building a more sustainable, innovative, and transparent food system. This recognition reinforces our commitment to quality, sustainability, and trust—the three pillars that continue to nourish the future of food.
